This is a presentation of Raf Somers, Chief Technical Advisor of the Vietnam Belgium Dairy Project, which was presented in the 5th African Dairy Conference and Exhibition 5 - 7 August 2009, Boksburg, South Africa.

This presentation was presented on the 4th African Dairy Conference and Exhibition organised by the Eastern and Southern African Dairy Association (ESADA) in Kenya, Nairobi in August 2008.

This report is a final report, presenting a description of the institutional environment of the dairy sector in Vietnam.

To meet a rapid growth of demand for animal products in Vietnam intensification of animal production is indispensable. That is because there are now important socio-economic constraints to increasing animal production in the traditional mixed smallholder systems, although they have been reasonably productive and inherently sustainable.
